Who we are
Helios Life Association is a Swiss non-profit association established in 2001, originally under the name Indian Ocean Care.
Created around a commitment to education, awareness-building and human development, the Association has evolved over more than twenty-five years while retaining the central principle that inspired its earliest activities:
lasting empowerment begins with what people know, understand and believe themselves capable of doing.
Its activities have ranged from direct educational support and work with young people to lectures, financial literacy initiatives, international cooperation and participation in broader discussions concerning human development.
Helios Life Association is constituted in Switzerland under Article 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code and holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Why Helios?
Helios takes its name from the ancient Greek personification of the sun — a timeless symbol of light, clarity and the widening of horizons.
For Helios Life Association, however, the meaning is practical rather than symbolic alone.
It represents the transformative power of knowledge.
Education enables people to understand more clearly the world around them and their place within it. Awareness broadens perspective. Knowledge, when combined with judgment and the confidence to act, expands the choices people are able to recognize and pursue.
The light does not determine your path.
It makes the path easier to see.
That principle has accompanied Helios throughout its evolution — from its beginnings as Indian Ocean Care in 2001 to its work today in education, financial capability, youth empowerment and human development.
Across countries, cultures and generations, our purpose has remained fundamentally the same:
to help people understand more, see further and participate more confidently in shaping their own lives.
Knowledge opens possibilities.Agency turns them into choices.
